War correspondence featured in Sewickley music series

At 3 p.m. Nov. 17, Music Plus, the concert series at St. James Church in Sewickley, will present “Love Letters: Music and Letters of Wartime,” featuring Donna Groom and Pops Orchestra.

The free-will concert will be 50-minutes in length. A 2:30 pre-concert will feature students from Amato Music Studio. All proceeds from the free-will offering will be given to Outdoor Immersion, a nonprofit that provides Christian faith-based outdoor adventure, recreation and fitness activities for veterans and military.

A reception will follow the concert at St. James Church, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley. CDs will be available for sale.

Groom is known as the female lead vocalist of “Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners.” A professional studio musician and singer who has worked in New York with some of the best musicians in the world, Groom has written and recorded TV and radio jingles, and performed at major venues, including Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Gardens and the Greek Theater. She has several successful CDs, and is the recipient of the Henry N. Mancini Achievement Award. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists, and a member of SAG-AFTRA.

“Love Letters” is a theatrical concert featuring wartime correspondence exchanged by veterans and their loved ones, including letters and music from major military conflicts, beginning with the War of Independence through today. It is accompanied by a multimedia video presentation. The concert is a testament to the humanity and dedication of our military veterans.
