Become a Wish Granting Volunteer
Help Make-A-Wish® Fulfill Life-Changing Wishes
PITTSBURGH, Pa., (September 24, 2019) – Children who are living with critical illnesses need the power of a wish. Make-A-Wish needs local residents to make it happen by volunteering their time and compassion to assist with fulfilling wishes.
To become a wish volunteer, individuals must be at least 21 years of age, pass a criminal background check and attend a one-time, in-person training session. Make-A-Wish is currently looking for new volunteers in Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Lawrence, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties. We do not currently need volunteers in Allegheny County, but if you would be available to travel to any of the above counties, please apply to attend the upcoming training.
The next training session will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 8 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., at the Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia headquarters located in the Gulf Tower at 707 Grant St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
As members of “wish teams,” volunteers are the faces of Make-A-Wish in their local communities. Working together, the “wish team” is assigned to a child in their area, meets one-on-one with the family and aids in determining the most suitable wish for the child.
Those interested should register as soon as possible to complete the volunteer application process in order to enroll and guarantee a spot at the training. Online registration closes on Sunday, October 20. To register, visit wish-volunteer-training-pittsburgh.eventbrite.com.
*For those who are interested in becoming a volunteer but cannot make this training session due to distance or unavailability, please still sign up online. There is an option that says “unable to attend but interested.” Make-A-Wish is always accepting applications and on-boarding prospective volunteers in preparation of future training sessions.
There are few experiences more powerful than making a wish come true. Join the community. Experience a wish. Make a life-changing impact. For more information and to begin the application process, please contact Volunteer Manager Amanda Filsinger at 412.471.9474 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
