Quaker Valley High School alumnae, Mackenzie Takus and Rachel Kuo, are part of a group of 20 students recently invited to participate this semester in the 2019 Acura ILX Marketing Challenge. Rachel and Mackenzie are currently enrolled in a capstone marketing class at the University of Pittsburgh called Projects in Marketing.
Pitt’s College of Business Administration Projects in Marketing students will compete against other university students across the United States in the Acura ILX Marketing Challenge for a chance to win scholarship awards for their university and present their campaign ideas and findings to executives at Acura’s U.S. headquarters in Torrance, CA. During the spring 2019 semester, Mackenzie, Rachel, and their classmates will be working as a functional marketing agency in order to create and implement a marketing campaign for the redesigned 2019 Acura ILX. Acura has called on students to think of innovative and exciting ways to help increase brand awareness, purchase consideration and the aspirational nature of Acura.
Rachel states, “I’m really grateful for the opportunity I was given to take this course and work so closely with Acura. Experienced-based learning is invaluable and I know that what I’ve learned this semester will allow me to be more successful in the workplace.”
Mackenzie added, “I held the position of agency coordinator in this class and it’s really helped me to figure out what I’d like to do in my future. The real-life experience that this class has provided has been really exciting and I’ve loved watching all of our ideas come to life.”
In the past, University of Pittsburgh students have participated in over a dozen competitions with clients including: Honda, American Eagle, and Goal Financial. They have traveled to company headquarters as semi-finalists to present their ideas to executives where they were judged to have the most outstanding campaigns. This semester the main event, featuring the 2019 Acura ILX, occurred on Tuesday, April 2 from 12:00-3:00 PM in the Schenley Quadrangle (the Quad). This year’s class is hopeful that they will be added to the list of successful classes.
