Classic Tuesday: Purple Rain at The Tull Family Theater

Tuesday, September 3, 2019 | 4:30 PM

Prince’s autobiographical Purple Rain is a predecessor of musical films such as recent favorites at the Theater, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born. The classic film captures Prince at the height of his powers, in his musical realm and his initial cinematic role. The film will screen at The Tull Family Theater, 418 Walnut St., only on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

“Even those who aren’t Prince fans are likely to be captivated by its energy, enamored with its simple, often poignant storyline,” shares the Hollywood Reporter.

“Rock star Prince makes an impressive feature film debut in Purple Rain, a rousing contemporary addition to the classic backstage musical genre,” applauds Variety.

“It does what musicals are supposed to do,” says the San Francisco Chronicle. “It rides the underlying currents of its moment and renders them glorious.”

There’s only one screening, so be sure to catch this rock icon! Tickets are available at Discounted admission for college students, military and seniors.
