Remembering Brookside Drive-In

Brookside Drive-In opened on Big Sewickley Creek Road in July 1947. With a 400-car capacity, it featured a single screen and individual speakers. Admission was 50 cents per person. A small play area sat below the screen and kept youngsters entertained as they patiently waited for darkness and the cartoon to begin. Throughout the evening, families could visit the snack bar. At the time, Blue Laws did not permit Sunday entertainment, but this changed following the November 1955 general election. By a vote of 604 to 227, Franklin Township voters approved the Sunday showing of movies at Brookside. The drive-in closed in 1987.
