Sewickley’s St. James School’s FIRST LEGO League’s teams are doing well in competition as they compete in their second season.
The school has three teams, plus is starting a FIRST LEGO League Jr. team for fourth graders.
One of the teams won third place Nov. 3 at the Sewickley Academy Fall Fest on November 3rd and first place on Nov. 17 at the Shady Side Academy Open.
Those on the winning team are: Nathan Hale (8th grade), Jack Feczko (8th grade), Phil DuBois (7th grade) and Jake Kempton (7th grade).
Also competing for St. James are: Mira Mosca, Savannah Hornstein, Abby Doubt, Juliet Price, Faith Williamson, Henrik Wright, Preston Hall, Frankie Igrec, Grant Griesacker, Tiernan McCullough, Ryan DeNinno and Dominic Killian.
The FIRST LEGO League includes teams from schools throughout the region that design and build a robot and then compete on a tabletop playing field. They also identify and research a real world problem that’s aligned with the season’s theme and propose a solution.
St. James is among the schools that will be competing Dec. 8 and 9 at Sewickley Academy, which is hosting the FIRST LEGO League Western Pa. Grand Championship.
Sewickley Academy Middle School students, those from St. James School and more than 80 other teams will be competing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sewickley Academy Events Center.
The event is free and open to the public, but parking on campus is limited. Remote parking will be available at the Esmark building (100 Hazel Lane, Sewickley) lot off of Route 65 with shuttle service available.
