Sewickley Academy and Quaker Valley track and field teams ready to compete at Butler Invitational

The Sewickley Academy and Quaker Valley track and field teams will join dozens of other squads from all around the WPIAL at the 55th annual Butler Invitational on Thursday at Butler High School.

Field events and others on the track will begin at 12:15 p.m. as individuals and relays post results they hope will land them a spot at next month’s WPIAL championships.

The top eight finishers in each event will receive medals, and individual track and field MVPs will be selected.

Quaker Valley girls lacrosse team goes for sixth straight win

The Quaker Valley girls lacrosse team has won five straight matches since a loss to Shady Side Academy late last month.

The latest victory came Monday in a 20-6 triumph over Knoch. The Quakers, who have averaged 16.4 goals during the winning streak, are now 6-1 overall and 4-0 in Section 2-AA.

QV returns to action Thursday and hosts section foe South Fayette at 7 p.m.

The Quakers also will step away from section competition Monday to face rival Sewickley Academy.

The Panthers are 7-1 overall and undefeated at 5-0 in Section 2-AAA

Sewickley Academy boys lacrosse hopes to even record

The Sewickley Academy boys lacrosse team is gearing up for its nonsection match this afternoon at 4:30 against Freeport at Nichols Field.

The Panthers are 3-4 overall, and they hope to snap a mini two-game losing streak. They suffered a low-scoring 4-3 setback to South Fayette on Tuesday in Section 2-AA play.

Sewickley Academy is 2-2 in section matches with an additional loss to Chartiers Valley against victories over Seton La Salle and Winchester Thurston. The top six teams in each AA section qualify for the WPIAL playoffs set to start May 13.
