The Quaker Valley wrestling team finished seventh Saturday at the Allegheny County Tournament at Fox Chapel High School.
The Quakers scored five medalists, including a champion and two second-place finishes.
John Rocco Kazalas, seeded first at 145, rolled to the championship match with two falls in a combined 1 minute, 50 seconds and an 18-2 technical fall in 5:09.
Kazalas then defeated Mt. Lebanon junior Jackson Gray 6-3 in the finals.
Sophomore Conner Redinger won four consecutive matches before falling to North Hills junior Sam Hillegas in the finals at 132.
Freshman Patrick Cutchember won four of five matches at 160 and finished second overall after a 10-6 loss to fellow freshman Mac Stout from Mt. Lebanon in the finals.
Senior heavyweight Brad Fadeley lost his first bout, but he won four of six in the consolation bracket to finish sixth.
Freshman Justin Ritchey went 4-2 at 120 pounds and placed seventh.
Panthers hockey seeks rebound
The Sewickley Academy hockey team hopes to bounce back from last week’s lost to North Hills when it takes on undefeated Montour on Monday at 7:15 p.m. at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center.
The Panthers now are 7-6 overall in Varsity A, two points behind North Hills for fourth in the North Division standings.
The Spartans (13-0) are averaging 10 goals a game and have surrendered just 34 goals in the North Division.
Montour defeated Sewickley Academy 8-2 when the teams met in late October.
Quakers face section leader
After snapping a three-game losing streak, the Quaker Valley girls basketball team will face a tall task Monday when it takes on Section 2-4A leader Blackhawk.
The Cougars, 11-2 overall and 6-0 in section play, are 5-0 in January and averaged 71.6 points in those games.
The Quakers’ three-game skid came in section, but they got back in the win column with a 49-36 victory over section foe New Castle (6-9, 1-6) last Thursday.
QV, 7-6 overall and in fourth place in the section at 3-4, fell to Blackhawk 65-16 in the first meeting Dec. 17.
