Quaker Valley track teams to compete at Knoch Relays

The Quaker Valley track and field teams will test their mettle Saturday at the 6th annual Knoch Relays at Knoch High School in Saxonburg.

The event features the regular relay events seen at invitationals and duel meets and some additional ones such as the 800-meter relay, the 1,000 sprint medley, the distance medley and the 400 shuttle hurdle.

Jumping and throwing events again will be incorporated into a relay format.

The meet begins at 10 a.m.

The Quakers return to section competition Thursday against New Brighton at New Brighton High School.

Section singles tournaments begin Monday

The Sewickley Academy and Quaker Valley boys tennis teams are preparing for Monday and Tuesday’s section singles tournaments.

Each team will be represented by two players in the single-elimination format. The top four finishers at each section tournament will advance to WPIALs.

The Panthers, playing up this year in AAA, will see competition at the Section 2 tournament from Butler, Mars, Moon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland and Seneca Valley.

Quaker Valley players in the Section 2-AA tournament will face those from Ambridge, Beaver Area, Beaver Falls, Blackhawk, Central Valley, Ellwood City, Neshannock and Riverside.

QV baseball to battle North Hills

The Quaker Valley baseball team steps away from Section 2-4A action Friday with a game against North Hills at 4 p.m. at North Hills High School.

The Quakers are 3-0 on the young season, and the start includes a 7-3 victory over Obama Academy in their section opener Wednesday.

QV outscored its first three opponents by a combined 25-5.

Including Friday, three of the Quakers’ next four games are on the road.
