Students have returned to Quaker Valley Middle School on Tuesday after an odor forced the building’s evacuation for about an hour.

Quaker Valley Middle School was evacuated after staff reported an unusual odor near the nurse’s office, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page. The school reported that the smell was no longer present and was deemed “non-hazardous to the health and safety of our student and staff.”

The fire department and gas company were notified and investigated, according to Facebook posts. The odor was not linked to gas, the school district said.

All students were evacuated to St. Andrew’s Church in Sewickley, “out of an abundance of caution,” a post said. The district asked that parents not pick up their children.

Students returned to the school by 10:30 a.m. The district is working with maintenance staff to identify the source of the odor.
