Quaker Valley girls lacrosse to find out quarterfinal opponent

The WPIAL Class AA girls lacrosse playoff tournament begins Monday, and Quaker Valley, the No. 2 seed, has a bye to the quarterfinals.
The Quakers host their first playoff contest Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. They will face the winner of Monday’s match between No. 7 Franklin Regional and No. 10 Chartiers Valley.
Quaker Valley, 14-1 overall, went undefeated in capturing the Section 2-AA championship and enters the playoffs on a 13-game winning streak.
Sewickley Academy softball gearing up for first-round game
Of the top four seeds in the Class A softball tournament, three of them received byes into the quarterfinals.
Top seed West Greene, No. 2 Leechburg and No. 3 Union will not play until May 20.
Sewickley Academy, the No. 4 seed, will face Monessen in the first round Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Peters Township.
The Class A field originally was set to have 12 teams, four from each of the three sections. But Sewickley Academy’s Section 1 foes Quigley Catholic and Rochester finished tied for fourth place in the section. Both qualified, eliminating the bye for the No. 4 seed.
Quaker Valley boys tennis hopes to bounce back
The Quaker Valley boys tennis team hopes to rebound from a loss to Indiana last week in the WPIAL Class AA championship match.
The Quakers begin the PIAA tournament Tuesday at noon against District 6 champion Juniata at Gorilla House Gym in Altoona.
Also on Tuesday, Indiana faces District 10 champion Mercyhurst Prep, and WPIAL No. 3 South Park faces District 9 champion St. Mary’s.
The eight first-round winners will advance to the quarterfinals Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
