The Quaker Valley girls basketball team has been involved in seven games this season decided by three points or less.
The latest came Tuesday as the Quakers, 10-9 overall, edged Montour 43-42 in a nonsection matchup.
The win snapped a mini two-game losing skid.
QV visits Ambridge on Thursday in the Section 2-4A finale for both teams. Both are 4-7 in the section, and the winner will earn the fourth and final WPIAL playoff spot from the section.
The Bridgers topped the Quakers 49-46 when the teams met Jan. 14.
Panthers roll to win over Spartans
The Sewickley Academy boys basketball team clinched at least a tie for second place in Section 3-2A with a 55-39 victory over Laurel on Tuesday.
The Panthers now are 8-3 in the section with Friday’s matchup with section leader OLSH remaining.
South Side Beaver fell to 7-4 with last Saturday’s 67-59 loss to Shenango. It wraps up section play Friday against Burgettstown.
Sewickley Academy and South Side split their season series.
Quakers extend win streak and avenge loss
The Quaker Valley boys basketball team put its only two losses this season far in the rear view mirror as it has won seven games in a row.
The latest came Tuesday in a 75-61 victory over Blackhawk. The win avenged its one-point setback to the Cougars from Jan. 11.
Quaker Valley (17-2) and New Castle sit tied for the Section 2-4A lead at 9-2, and Ambridge is a half game back at 8-2.
The section title will be decided later this week as Ambridge and QV meet on Friday before Ambridge faces New Castle on Saturday. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m.
