Quaker Valley boys tennis team returns to state playoffs

The WPIAL runner-up Quaker Valley boys tennis team begins play in the PIAA Class AA tournament Tuesday at noon against District 6 champion Juniata.
It is the Quakers’ third trip to states in the past four seasons.
In 2016, QV finished as the No. 3 team from the WPIAL and suffered a PIAA first-round loss to District 10 champion Fairview.
The Quakers got revenge on Fairview one year later, beating the returning District 10 champion in the first round. QV then fell to District 2 champion Wyoming Seminary in the quarterfinals.
Sewickley Academy boys lacrosse opens postseason on road
The Sewickley Academy boys lacrosse team begins the WPIAL Class AA playoffs Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Gateway.
The Panthers, 6-8 overall, are the No. 10 seed. The No. 7 Gators are 9-4.
The winner takes on No. 2 Hampton in the quarterfinals Thursday at 8 p.m.
Sewickley Academy enters the playoffs hoping to snap a three-game losing streak. It’s last win, however, came against No. 4-seed Moon in Section 2-AA play May 2. The Panthers finished 4-4 in the section.
Seventh-seeded Panthers girls lacrosse squad gears up for Peters Township
The Sewickley Academy girls lacrosse team is the No. 7 seed for the WPIAL Class AAA tournament and will face No. 10 Peters Township on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Nichols Field.
The winner advances to the quarterfinals and will face No. 2 Shady Side Academy on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The four teams in Class AAA that advance to the semifinals also clinch spots in the PIAA playoffs.
Sewickley Academy enters the postseason 10-5 overall. It beat Moon 18-4 on May 6 to cap its Section 2-AAA slate at 8-3.
