Quaker Valley baseball opens playoffs against South Park

The Quaker Valley baseball team begins its playoff journey Wednesday afternoon at Seneca Valley High School against South Park in the first round of the WPIAL 4A tournament.

It is one of the earliest starts with first pitch at 2 p.m.

The Quakers picked up the No. 10 seed after they finished 11-6 overall in the regular season and tied for fourth place with Central Valley in Section 2.

The top three teams advance to the PIAA tournament. The championship game is May 28 at Washington’s Wild Things Park.

Sewickley Academy softball wins playoff opener

The Sewickley Academy softball team kicked off the WPIAL Class A playoffs Tuesday with a 5-4 victory over Monessen at Peters Township.

The fourth-seeded Panthers improved to 9-3 overall.

Up next for Sewickley Academy is a quarterfinal matchup Monday against No. 4 Jefferson-Morgan, a 15-1 winner over Rochester on Tuesday.

Jefferson-Morgan, the Section 2 runner-up, upped its overall record to 10-6.

Quaker Valley girls lacrosse to face Franklin Regional

The Quaker Valley girls lacrosse team earned the No. 2 seed and a bye into the WPIAL Class AA quarterfinals.

The Quakers found out Monday they would take on Franklin Regional after the No. 7 Panthers topped Chartiers Valley 17-6 in a first-round match.

QV, which finished the regular season 14-1, will host the Panthers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Quaker Valley High School. The game is a rematch of a 17-7 Quakers win April 25.

The semifinal matches are Monday with the championship May 23 at Robert Morris University.
