Portions of the popular Netflix series “Mindhunter” will be filmed next month in Sewickley.

Late Seventies Productions LLC, based in Pittsburgh, has requested to use the municipal building on Thorn Street for the filming of “Mindhunter” season two.

“They plan to be here one day and they basically come in for five or six hours in the day and just take (their) pictures down and do whatever they have to do,” Borough Manager Kevin Flannery said at a recent borough council meeting.

In their contract, Late Seventies Productions offered to use the municipal building for $1,500 and agreed to pay for any associated costs including police, public works and fire, Flannery said. Council approved the motion contingent upon borough solicitor Richard Tucker's review.

“Mindhunter,” a crime drama series, depicts the work of two FBI agents (played by Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany) and a psychologist (played by Anna Torv) who interview serial killers to learn more about their thought processes. The series is set in the late 1970s.

The first season debuted in October 2017. It has received many positive reviews from critics including Keith Uhlich of The Hollywood Reporter, who called it “never less than engrossing.” It also has received a stellar 96 percent on the website Rotten Tomatoes.

The show has filmed in Ambridge and Coraopolis.

Tucker said he spoke June 12 with a representative from Late Seventies Productions, who indicated the company's desire to change the original date of the filming.

Although borough officials don't have a new date confirmed yet, they wanted to make sure the final contract could be approved if the production company were to choose a date that occurred before the borough's July council meeting.
