Leetsdale Snowflake Classic and more Sewickley-area events

On Nov. 9, at 9 a.m., the Leetsdale Snowflake Classic 5K run and 2-mile walk will take place.

All funds benefit the Fourth of July parade and fireworks. Register at athlinks.com. The cost is $30 for adults and $20 for teens and seniors.

Register in advance to guarantee a long-sleeved T-shirt. Shirt pickup is in front of Quaker Valley High School on Beaver Street as early as 7:30 a.m. Kids run takes place at 8:45 a.m. The main event starts promptly at 9 a.m. A commemorative finishers medal will be given to all runners.

Awards will be given to the top three men and women.

The race finishes at Henle Park, where there will be hot chocolate, soft pretzels and a bonfire, weather permitting.

Boy Scout Troop 243 offers luminaria kits

The Boy Scout Troop 243 luminaria sale returns, with kits available to purchase through Dec. 9.

Each kit costs $12 and contains 10 bags, 10 five-inch candles and sand.

Kits will be delivered to homes Dec. 14.

Sewickley Music Club to host Zaffiro Trio

The Sewickley Music Club welcomes the Zaffiro Trio performing “Classical Gems” from Beethoven and Bach.

The program will feature pianist Tina Faigen, cellist Paula Tuttle and clarinetist Mary Beth Malek. A formal tea will follow.

Members will meet at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 801 Beaver Street, Sewickley.

55 Plus Club to feature handbell soloist

The luncheon programs for St. Mary & St. James 55 Plus Club Grouping No. 328 will be Nov. 21.

The entertainment will be provided by Sue Garton, a handbell soloist. She is the winner of the Handbell Exploration Solo Competition and Extravaganza in Colorado Springs.

The prayer service begins at noon followed by lunch and the entertainment beginning at 12:30 p.m. Reservations are due in the church office no later than 9 a.m. Nov. 15.

Reservations must include name, names of guests, address including city, phone number plus check made payable to St. James 55 Plus Club for $9 for each member and $9.50 for each nonmember.

Place reservations in an envelope labeled 55 Plus Club, Attn: Lil Yankello and place in the offering basket, drop off at the rectory or mail to 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, PA 15143, so it arrives before 9 a.m. Nov. 15.

Registration under way for Turkey Trot

The Sewickley Valley YMCA has opened registration for the annual Turkey Trot 5K scheduled for Nov. 28.

The race starts and finishes at War Memorial Park. Proceeds benefit the Faith in Action program, which meets the transportation needs of elderly in the community by providing rides to medical treatment and doctor’s appointments.

Registration on the day of the race begins at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8:30 a.m.
