Iwanonkiw owns top seed for MAC diving championships

Quaker Valley sophomore Simon Iwanonkiw is the top seed for the boys diving competition at the Midwestern Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at 4 p.m. at Moon High School.
Several members of the Quaker Valley/Sewickley Academy combined teams will be in action both days and join competitors representing Montour, West Allegheny, Beaver, Beaver Falls, Carlynton, Cornell, Central Valley, Riverside, Mars, Hopewell, Blackhawk, Neshannock, New Castle, Mohawk and Ambridge.
Saturday’s swimming begins at 10:30 a.m.
Freshman Isabel Huang is seeded fourth in the girls 200-yard individual medley.
Sewickley Academy heads into final week of section play with playoff spot locked up
Despite a 47-35 loss to Vincentian Academy on Saturday in a Section 1-1A contest, the Sewickley Academy girls basketball team has clinched a spot in the WPIAL playoffs.
The Panthers and Royals now are tied for third place in the section standings with 6-4 records. They are two games ahead of Eden Christian (4-6) with two games left.
Sewickley Academy hosts Union on Monday at 7 p.m. and concludes section play Thursday at Eden Christian. The Panthers defeated Eden 49-25 when the teams met Jan. 14.
QV comes close to state tournament
The Quaker Valley wrestling team fell one win short of the PIAA championships.
The Quakers suffered a close 38-35 setback to Freedom on Saturday in the WPIAL AA team semifinals at Chartiers-Houston High School.
Then, Beth-Center dealt QV a 56-19 loss in the third-place match with the winner advancing to states.
The Quakers, the Section 2-AA champions, wrestle Beaver Area on Monday in a nonsection match at 7 p.m.
