Monday, May 13, 2019 | 6:00 AM
The Sewickley Valley Historical Society will host a dedication of the B.G. Shields Memorial Garden at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Old Sewickley Post Office.
The garden faces Broad Street, to the left of the building. Resident Elise Keely, of EK Smith, Landscape Designs, was chosen to create and oversee construction of the respite. The garden is accessible from the parking lot ramp.
Shields was the editor of the Sewickley Herald from 1972 to 1987 and is a founding member of the historical society. After retiring from the Herald, she was the executive director of the Sewickley Valley Historical Society until 2005. She died in 2017.
Light refreshments will be offered and the annual meeting will follow at 7, followed by a presentation from Pamela Israel at 7:30 p.m.
Israel will present “Journey from the Attic: Unlocking Your Family’s History.” Those who have documents written in a Germanic or Scandinavian language that they would like deciphered can bring them to Israel’s brother, Stefan, who has a Ph.D. in Germanic languages.
