Here’s what’s happening around town: Thursday, Dec. 6

Thursday, December 6, 2018 | 6:18 AM

Hello, Sewickley!

It might not be baseball weather outside but attendees of tomorrow’s Senior Men’s Club meeting can enjoy a morning talking about the beloved national pastime. The club will welcome former Pirates manager Jim Leyland at their meeting at the Sewickley Valley YMCA.

Coffee and donuts will be served starting at 9 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10.

Leyland was named 33rd manager of the Pirates in 1985. Leyland, who won two Manager of the Year trophies in 1990 and 1992, helped develop all-stars such as Barry Bonds, Jay Bell, Tim Wakefield, Andy Van Slyke and Bobby Bonilla

Under him, the Pirates went to the National League Championship Series in three straight seasons in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

The club is open to all senior men, meets weekly and includes speakers and social events. Interested folks can attend as a guest for the day. Contact Roni Vilseck at 412-741-9622 ext. 112 or rvilseck@sewickleyymca.org to join.
