Harpist featured in Sewickley concert series

Music Plus, the concert series at St. James Church, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, presents harpist Marissa Knaub Avon at 3 p.m. Oct. 20.

The concert will feature solo works as well as selections with flute and cello. A variety of styles will center around the theme of nature and life, showcasing the harp’s unique sound and color.

Knaub Avon completed studies at Cleveland Institute of Music, Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and Berklee College of Music, where she studied jazz harp. She has performed with numerous orchestras and has a solo harp CD titled “Worship from the Harp.”

She teaches harp to grades 6-12 at CAPA in the Cultural District, and maintains a private harp studio. A 2:30 preconcert will feature her harp students. Items for the Sewickley Food Pantry will be accepted at this performance, including dry, paper goods, and canned goods, and the freewill offering will also be given to the food pantry.

A dessert reception will follow the concert, and Knaub Avon’s CDs will be available for purchase.
