Grace Church in Edgeworth will host a neighborhood cookout – free — to offer people the chance to get to know their neighbors.

“We are currently in a season of replanting, which is how the neighborhood cookout idea was born,” said the Rev. Chance Perdue, pastor.

“Hospitality and love for the neighbor is at the heart of Christian faith. That’s the simple reason behind it.”

The cookout will be at 6 p.m. July 20 at 325 Church Lane.

Perdue said there’s no sermon and it’s not about raising money.

“There’s no sales pitch,” he said. “It’s literally a cookout.”

Church leaders hope to create a space where people feel comfortable enough to form friendships while the smell of grilling burgers wafts across the lawn. There will be food and drinks, and people are encouraged to bring camp chairs.

“Grace Church hopes to be a place of peace for the surrounding community,” Perdue said.
