The Empty Bowls fundraising event has become a staple project of Just Harvest and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The goal of the two organizations is to work toward eliminating hunger and poverty. Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley held a studio session to create bowls for the Empty Bowls Dinner, which will take place March 15 at Rodef Shalom Congregation in Shadyside.

Around a dozen people attended the Jan. 18 bowl making event.

“Sweetwater is one of only a couple of organizations providing opportunities for the general public to participate in making bowls,” said Emily Cleath, communications coordinator for Just Harvest. “The rest of the 1 to 2,000 bowls donated for Empty Bowls are made by artisans, school students (elementary through college), and members of community groups.”
