Battle of Quaker Valley duos caps WPIAL doubles tournament

It was guaranteed that a Quaker Valley team would win the WPIAL Class AA doubles tennis championship Tuesday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford.
Quaker Valley’s John Watters and Zach Albert topped teammates Potter Oliver and Will Siriani 6-3, 6-2 to claim the championship.
Both teams advance to the PIAA championships May 24 and 25 in Hershey.
Quaker Valley is preparing for Thursday’s start of the WPIAL team tournament, and the Class AA bracket is to be released Wednesday.
Panthers to begin WPIAL team tennis tournament
The Sewickley Academy boys tennis team opens the WPIAL Class AAA team tournament against Upper St. Clair on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Upper St. Clair’s high school courts.
The Panthers finished as one of the top four teams in Section 2 with North Allegheny, Moon and Pine-Richland.
The USC-Sewickley Academy winner will take on the winner of Latrobe and top-seeded Fox Chapel in the quarterfinals Monday.
The top three teams advance to the PIAA tournament starting May 14.
QV girls lacrosse continues section-title quest
The Quaker Valley girls lacrosse team has two Section 2-AA games remaining in its mission to finish its section slate undefeated.
The Quakers, 6-0 in section play and 11-1 overall, visit section foe North Catholic on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
QV owns a half-game lead over Blackhawk (6-1) in the Section 2 standings. The Quakers and Cougars will clash for the title next Tuesday at Quaker Valley.
In addition to its battles in section, QV made a statement Monday with a 13-5 victory over Section 1-AA leader Oakland Catholic.
