Animal Friends longtime President and CEO David Swisher has been terminated.

According to Animal Friends board Chairwoman Gina Carlos, Swisher has been replaced by Kathleen Beaver, former chief strategy officer.

“Upon being made aware of allegations against President and CEO David Swisher involving violations of the organization’s employment policies, Animal Friends Board of Directors launched an independent, third-party investigation,” Carlos said Monday in an emailed statement.

“Based on the findings, the board voted to terminate Mr. Swisher. Kathleen Beaver, a 22-year veteran of Animal Friends, will step into the role of interim CEO.”

“We are confident that under her leadership we will continue to thrive and progressively serve the animals in our region.”

Swisher supervised the no-kill shelter’s move from the Strip District to their current 75-acre campus in Ohio Township and their major fundraisers, including the annual Black Tie & Tails, which is scheduled for Sept. 20 and 21.

Animal Friends provides care for more than 2,600 homeless pets and provides about 1,200 spay/neuter surgeries annually.
